An international team of astronauts set up an exploration camp in the North Polar region of Mars. The group has travelled here from their main base camp farther south in a jointed "Marsmobile" which has now been broken down into a bulldozer, a short excursion rover, and a larger unit for longer trips. Three scientists have driven the rover up a hill to explore some cliffs close up. These rock formations, eroded by wind and frost shattering, contain layers of dirty water ice which can be mined. Back at the camp the others finish the habitats by burying them in sand and rocks as a shield against solar radiation. |
