"Jack Stuster is an excellent storyteller. There is a strong theme here of man against the elements, and his accounts of human endurance alone will attract many readers. I have never seen anyone do such a good job of rooting out examples from expedition literature. This outstanding work should attract a general as well as a specialized audience." Professor Albert A. This is an excellent textbook on the issues associated with the human settlement of Mars. Edited by Carol Stoker (NASA Ames Research Center), and Carter Emmart (National Center for Atmospheric Reseach), this book draws together twenty six individually authored chapters by noted authorities in the fields crucial for considering human commitment to the red planet. This book was originally suggested as an idea by the former Thomas O. Paine, NASA administrator from 1968-1970, and Chairman of the National Commission on Space,1986. He died in 1992, leaving as his last work, a chapter for this book. His design for the Mars flag is shown on the cover, being raised by his grandson who bears his name. Prologue by Daniel S. Goldin, current NASA Administrator. View Carter Emmarts excellent artwork from Strategies for Mars. |

This is the place to learn about and become involved in combining the arts with technology and, in particular, space exploration. Created and maintained by artist Arthur Woods whose Art in Space project, for the first time, carried the arts into orbit aboard the Mir space station. His vision is an inspiration. "It is my wish that ars astronautica become both a forum and a platform for the space arts. Actively participating and supporting this web project will enable all of us to achieve a larger visibility on the Internet as well among the general public throughout the world. This, in turn, will spread our message and heighten general awareness of our art as well the importance of space exploration and development to the future of our species." -Arthur Woods | |
| An excellent resource for further study of manned exploration of Mars! This site displays Carter Emmart's magnificent artwork depicting various future realities on Mars. The artwork is from the book Strategies for Mars: A Guide to Human Exploration Strategies for Mars: A Guide to Human Exploration as described above. | |
