It shouldn't be happening. Just above an icy expanse their MarsCat's port video feed captured a seemingly gaseous fiery glow seconds before its dissipation. She called to Naoki to see if he had seen... He had. In fact he'd reacted quickly, instinctively initiating a scan of the area while simultaneously transmitting the data to Adam in his lab. Now, they faced each other in amazement. They couldn't wait for the detailed analysis that would be sure to follow. In Lomonosov, a quarter of a world away, Adam heard the alert of the incoming data stream. He checked to make sure it was proceeding smoothly. They were a good team. He looked forward to next week when Cheryl and Naoki docked so he could discuss their six week expedition face to face... and they could continue their evening composing/concert sessions. Cheryl had become quite adept on her suona, Chinese oboe. Adam remembered the first expedition a year and half ago when the thin copper wire holding the suona's reed had been used for a make-shift minor system repair of their MarsCat. When they returned to Lomonosov one of the first things Cheryl had done was recover her reed wire. Adam smiled to himself at the thought. And Naoki's mastery of his micro-synthesizer went well with Adam's own Mars-data musical interpretations. The evenings would be good. |
